“그래도 감사” (하박국 3:17-19)

“Still Thankful” (Habakkuk 3:17-19)

(성경 배경): 하박국선지자는 바벨론의 남유다 침공을 앞두고 있는 상황에서 하나님의 말씀을 전했습니다. 당시 남유다는 종교적, 도덕적 타락이 극에 달하였습니다. 나라는 곧 멸망하게 되는 상황속에 있었습니다. 열악한 현실 속에서 하박국은 간절히 하나님께 기도할 때, “의인은 그의 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라”(합 2:4)는 말씀을 통해서 ‘위로와 격려’의 말씀을 주셨습니다. 그 말씀을 받고 본문의 신앙고백을 하고 있는것입니다.

(Biblical Background): The prophet Habakkuk delivered God’s word beforethe invasion of Judah by Babylon. At the time, Judah’s immorality had reachedits peak. Therefore, it was in a state of being destroyed. When Habakkuk wouldearnestly pray to God in this harsh reality, he was given the words of comfortand encouragement that the “righteous shall live by faith” (Hab. 2:4). And uponreceiving the word, he offered up confessions for the assembly.

오늘도 추수감사절을맞이 하지만 특별한 감사거리가 없는 성도들도 있을 수 있습니다. 너무나 힘들고 어려운 상황에 처해 있을수도 있습니다. 도저히 감사할 수 없는 상황에 있을 수도 있습니다. 마음에간절히 원하던 것을 아직 이루지 못했을 수도 있습니다. 너무나 소중한 것을 잃어 버렸을 수도 있습니다.

Even though many celebrate Thanksgiving, there may be those who donot have particular things to be thankful for. Perhaps you are filled with manydifficult situations, and it is nearly impossible to find things to be thankfulfor. You may not have received what you desperately sought for. Or you may havelost something very precious.

When we look at the text…

(합 3:17) “비록 무화과가 무성하지못하며 포도나무에 열매가 없으며 감람나무에 소출이 없으며 밭에 먹을 것이 없으며 우리에 양이 없으며 외양간에 소가 없을지라도”

(Hab.3:17) “Though the fig tree should notblossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and thefields yield no food…”

무화과 나무, 포도나무, 감람나무는 이스라엘에서 가장 흔한 나무들입니다. 따라서 이런 나무들에 열매가 없다는 것은 그 땅이 황폐화 되었고 전혀 먹을 것이 없다는 것입니다. 양과 소는 이스라엘에서 중요한 짐승들입니다. 그런데 양도 없고 소도없습니다. 생존을 위한 절대적인 식물과 동물들이 다 없는 것입니다. 이것은도저히 살아 갈 수 없는 상황입니다. 감사할 수 없는 상황입니다.

Fig trees, vine trees, and olive trees are very common in Israel.And so the lack of fruit from these trees indicate the devastation of the landand lack of food for nourishment. Lambs and cows are important animals ofIsrael. But there’s no lamb nor cow. It’s an unlivable situation; situation toodifficult to be thankful.

그러나 이 가운데에서도하박국은 여호와로 말미암아 즐거워하며 구원의 하나님으로 말미암아 기뻐하겠다는 놀라운 신앙고백을 합니다.

However, in the midst of such tragedy, Habakkuk makes anincredible commitment to rejoice in the Lord and take joy in the God ofsalvation.

(합 3:18) “없을지라도 (그래도, 웨, 히브리어, yet) 나는 여호와로 말미암아 즐거워하며 나의 구원의 하나님으로 말미암아 기뻐하리로다”

(Hab. 3:18) “Yet I will rejoice in theLORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.”

하박국의 신앙은 환경을이기는 신앙입니다. 환경을 이기는 기쁨이며 찬양입니다. 참된신앙은 주위의 환경 “때문에” 감사하는 신앙이 아니고, “그래도” 감사하는 신앙입니다. 성도들은아무리 힘들어도 “그래도” 감사를 드려야 할 것입니다.

Habakkuk’s faith is victorious over any circumstances. It’s apraise of joy because of the victorious faith. True faith is not thankfulbecause of the circumstances, but true faith is thankful in spite of thecircumstances. No matter how difficult our circumstances may be, give thanks inspite of it.

신촌 세브란스 심장병동에 걸린 유명한 기도문이 있습니다. 그기도문으로 인해 많은 환자들이 위로를 받고 소망을 얻는다고 합니다.

There’s a famousprayer in Shinchon Severance Heart Disease Center. Many patients would hearthis prayer and receive hope.

“주님, 때때로병들게 하심을 감사합니다. 인간의 약함을 깨닫게 해주시기 때문입니다.가끔 고독의 수렁에 내 던지심도 감사합니다. 주님과 가까워지는 기회이기 때문입니다. 일이 계획대로 안 되게 틀어주심도 감사합니다. 나의 교만함을 반성할수 있기 때문입니다. 더러는 아들, 딸이 걱정거리가 되게하시고 더러는 부모와 동기가 짐으로 느껴질 때도 감사합니다. 인간된 보람을 깨닫기 때문입니다. 먹고 사는 일이 힘겹게 하심을 감사합니다. 눈물로 빵을 먹는 심정을이해할 수 있기 때문입니다. 불의와 허위가 득세하는 시대에 태어난 것도 감사합니다. 하나님의 의가 분명히 드러나기 때문입니다.”

“Lord! Thank you formaking me sick from time to time. You make me realize the frailty of humans.Thank you for sometimes throwing me into a pit of loneliness. That’s a chancefor me to get closer to you, Lord. Thank you for making things go wrong. Thatway I can repent for my arrogance. Thank you for making me worry about mychildren and feel that my parents and friends are a burden. That makes merealize how worthwhile it is to be human. Thank you for making it hard for meto make a living and eat. That makes me understand what it’s like to eat apiece of bread in tears. I’m also thankful for being born in a time ofinjustice. It’s makes your justice clearly stand out.”

(예화):성공한 사람들은 상실을 감사로 바꾸는 힘을 가지고 있는 사람들입니다.

(Illustration): Successful people are those who possess thestrength to turn the loss into thankfulness.

마쯔시다 고노스케(松下幸之助)는 자전거 가게 점원으로 출발해서 대기업가가 되었습니다. 마쯔시다는 사업 성공의 비결을 묻는질문에 대해 이렇게 대답했습니다. "저는 세 가지 감사할 조건을 가지고 일생을 살아왔기에 이렇게성공을 했습니다.” 그래서 기자는 대단한 조건을 가졌기 때문에 성공을 했는가 생각을 했습니다. 그러나 마쯔시다 회장은 이런 고백을 했습니다. “내가 성공한 것은… 1), 11살 어린 나이에 부모님을 잃었기에, 남보다 일찍 철이들수 있어서 감사합니다. 2), 초등학교 4학년이 제 학력의전부였기에, 남보다 열심히 공부하게 된 것이 행운이었습니다. 3), 몸이약했기에, 자연히 건강에 신경을 썼더니 이렇게 건강하게 된것이 감사합니다." 마쯔시다 회장이야 말로 남들이 보기에 너무나 불우했지만 그 책임을 다른 사람이나 환경 탓으로 돌리지않고 항상 감사하는 마음을 가지고 주어진 환경에서 최선을 다하여 크게 성공한 사람이 되었습니다.

Konosuke Matsushita movedup from an assistant position of a bike shop to a large corporation. Matsushitaanswered to his success: “I was successful, because I always lived with threeconditions that I was always thankful for.” So the journalist thought that hewas successful, because he had an incredible mindset. However, President Matsushitaconfessed that he is successful because 1) when I lost my parents at 11yrs ofage, I had to mature faster than others, which I am thankful for. 2) I was onlyable to study till 4^th grade, so I had to study march harder thanothers, which I consider to be lucky. 3) Because I was physically weak, I hadto focus a lot on becoming healthy; and so I became very healthy, which I amthankful.” Though others may consider him to have had many disadvantages inlife, he never blamed anyone else for his troubles. But rather, had a thankfulmind in all circumstances and worked hard to gain success. 

힘들고 어려운 형편에서 미국 대통령이 된 아브라함 링컨은 “감사할 줄 아는 사람에게는 발전이 있다.”는 명언을 남겼습니다.  

Abraham Lincoln, whobecame a President of the US through much difficulty said, “There’s progressfor those who know how to be thankful.”

신앙의 인물들도 다 역경을 통과한 사람들입니다. 요셉은종으로 팔려가고, 죄수가 되었지만, 애굽의 총리가 되었습니다. 모세는 애굽의 왕자에서 도망자가 되어 미디안 광야에서 40년을 보내고서야이스라엘 출애굽의 지도자가 되었습니다. 다윗은 목동이었지만 골리앗을 이기고, 사울의 핍박을 받아 도망자가 되었지만 왕이 되었습니다. 바울은 고난을받으면서 복음을 전했지만, 주님의 위한 고난 당함이 자신의 사도의 표시라고 말했습니다.

Faithful figures allpassed through adversity. Joseph was sold into slavery, though he was innocent.But later became second in Egypt. Moses, from being a prince of Egypt to afugitive, lived in Midian for 40 years and was called to lead his people out ofEgypt. David was a shepherd boy. But after defeating Goliath, he had to runaway, because of Saul’s persecution. But eventually became the King of Israel.Paul preached the Gospel, while facing many difficulties, but continuedpreaching in suffering as a sign of his apostleship from the Lord.

사도 바울은 복음을 전하다가로마의 옥에 갖혔습니다. 바닥은 차디차고 주위를 둘러보면 사방이 쇠창살입니다. 그러나 사도 바울은 빌립보 교회 성도들을 향해서 말합니다. (빌 4:4) “주 안에서 항상 기뻐하라 내가 다시 말하노니 기뻐하라”

Apostle Paul was put in Rome’s prison while preaching the Gospel. Thoughthe floor was cold and imprisoned behind bars, he said to the church inPhilippi, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice” (Phil. 4:4).

바울은 감옥에 갇혀 있으면서도 기쁨과 평안을 누리고 있었습니다. 바울은 습기찬 로마 지하 감옥의 절망적인 상황 속에서도 좌절의 늪에 빠지지 않고 빌립보 성도들에게오히려 기뻐하라고 편지를 하고 있습니다. 바울이 그렇게 할 수 있었던 까닭은 예수 그리스도를 통해 세상이줄 수 없는 기쁨과 소망을 얻었기 때문이었습니다.

Though Paul was imprisoned, exhibited great joyand peace. Despite the harsh conditions of the Roman prison, without fallinginto despair, he writes to the believers in Philippi to rejoice. Paul couldlive with such words, only because he has receive joy and peace that worldcould not give, but only through Jesus Christ.

성도의 참된 기쁨은 주 안에서 누리는 기쁨입니다. 바울은 돈을 가지고 기뻐하라고 하지 않았으며, 지위나 명예를 가지고 기뻐하라고도 하지 않았습니다. 그런 세상적인기쁨은 안개처럼 지나가며 결코 영원한 기쁨을 주지 못하는 것입니다. 바울은 주 안에서 기뻐하라고 합니다. 우리의 죄를 대신해서 십자가에 못박혀 피흘리시고 죽으신 후 사흘 만에 부활하신 예수 그리스도 안에서 얻는 죄사함의기쁨이 진정한 기쁨이요, 이 기쁨을 소유한 사람만이 천국의 영원한 행복을 누릴 수 있는 것입니다.

True joy of the believers is found only in theLord. Paul didn’t say to rejoice because of money, nor because of condition orhonor. Such joy from the world will be like the fog that quickly comes and goesand cannot last forever. Rather, Paul said to rejoice in the Lord. Our true joycomes in Jesus Christ who took our place on the cross, bearing our punishment,dying in our place, and rising again in three days. Only in him, can we receiveeternal joy. 

(합 3:19) “주 여호와는 나의 힘이시라나의 발을 사슴과 같게 하사 나를 나의 높은 곳으로 다니게 하시리로다”

(Hab. 3:19) “God, the Lord, is my strength;he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places.”

하박국은 세상적으로 볼때는 가진 것도 없지만, 감사할 것도 없지만, 사슴처럼 뛰면서하나님을 찬양합니다. 하박국은 다른 것 때문이 아니고 하나님의 구원을 인하여 기뻐하며 찬양합니다. 세상 사람들은 도저히 이해할 수 없는 기쁨입니다. 감사입니다. 그러나 구원의 은총을 받은 사람들은 그 기쁨을 알고 함께 찬양할 수 있습니다.의인은 믿음으로 삽니다. 은혜로 삽니다. 감사로삽니다. 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 의롭다함을 받은 성도 여러분, 어떠한역경 속에서도 구원의 확신을 가지고 늘 기쁨과 감사와 찬양의 삶을 사시기를 바랍니다.

Although Habakkuk did not have anything by worldly standards, norhave many things to be thankful for, he ran like the deer, praising the Lord.Because of the Lord’s salvation, Habakkuk was able to joyfully praise the Lord.It’s joy that the world cannot understand. It’s thankfulness. And those whohave received the grace of salvation can together praise the Lord. We live byfaith; by grace; in thankfulness. Believers, who have been justified by faithin Jesus Christ, whatever adversity you may face, hold on the assurance of yoursalvation and daily with joy and thankfulness, live a life of praise.

(결론): 오늘 세례를받으신 분들을 주님의 이름으로 축하합니다. 세상이 결코 빼앗아 갈 수 없는 구원의 기쁨을 누리시기를바랍니다. 그리고 그 기쁨을 평생 간직하시기를 바랍니다.

(Conclusion): We congratulate those who received the baptism inJesus’ name. We hope you’ll receive the joy of salvation that the world cannottake away, and keep that joy for the rest of your life!

추수감사의 계절을 맞이하면서또 일년을 마무리 하면서, 여러가지 감사의 제목들로 감사를 하시기 바랍니다. 그러나 특별한 감사의 제목들이 없다하여도, 현재의 상황이 아무리힘들고 어려워도, 가장 큰 감사의 제목인 “구원의 기쁨”을 가지고 하박국과 같이 구원의 하나님을 인하여 기뻐하며 감사하는 마음을 잃지 않는  성도들이 되시기를 축원합니다.

As we welcome a season of thanksgiving, and passing yet anotheryear, we hope you’ll have many reason to be thankful. And even though you maynot have any specific praise reports, no matter the difficulties and harshnessof life, we have the greatest reason to be thankful: the joy of God’ssalvation. And take that joy of his salvation with Habakkuk and be believerswho will never lose the joy and the thankful mind.
